The latest report on the State of the UK's Birds has been released, and shows mixed forturnes for the UK's bird populations. Whilst targeted conservation work has improved the status of some species, there has been an overall increase in the number of red listed species.
The annual report on the State of the UK Barn Owl Population has been published for 2016 and contains data from Essex Wildlife Trust for the first time.
A new study by Butterfly Conservation, The University of Kent and the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology has found that butterflies are declining more dramatically in urban areas than in the countryside. Overall, butterfly abundance in urban areas has fallen by 69% compared with a 45% decline in more rural areas.
