Training dates have been announced for the Essex Wildlife Trust 2017 training courses on otter, water vole and mink survey techniques.

Training courses are run on the River Colne at Fordham Hall, and dates are as follows:

  • Fri 31st March, 10.00-13.00 
  • Saturday 8th April, 10.00-13.00 (date changed from Sat 1st April)

Learn how to find the signs of water voles and otters so you can survey one of 256 different Riversearch points across Essex or take part in the National Water Vole Monitoring Programme in May 2017. We will also look at a mink monitoring raft.

Meeting point: Fordham Hall Nature Reserve car park, Ponders Road, Fordham, Essex.

Essex Rivers Hub Celebration - 10th Feb

The 2017 Essex Rivers Hub Celebration meeting is to be held on Friday 10th February 2017 at the Essex Record Office Conference Centre. The event is a celebration to highlight the work of the Essex Rivers Hub and its partner organisations There will be a focus on the catchment restoration projects we’ve completed, those in development and the many varied activities across the catchment which are all making an important contribution. 

The Essex Rivers Hub was formed in January 2014 and is hosted by Essex Wildlife Trust. It has developed a broad active membership because improving our water environment for wildlife and people is a challenge for everyone and we will only succeed by working together. We will have a diverse audience of c.100 invitees including a wide range of local politicians and decision makers, volunteer River Wardens, members of Parish Councils, and special interest groups.

Numbers will be limited, so for more details and to book your place email, by no later than Friday 3rd February 2017. We will be providing refreshments and a buffet lunch, so please also indicate any particular dietary requirements (vegetarian/vegan).


Shoresearch Events for 2017

Dates for our Essex Wildlife Trust Shoresearch surveys in 2017 have been announced, contact us to book your place!

Shoresearch is a national intertidal survey scheme that aims to identify and record marine creatures in the intertidal zone. Training and equipment will be provided, just bring wellies!

The survey dates for 2017 are as follows:

  • Thursday 1st June 2017: Walton-on-the-Naze. 10:30am start.
  • Tuesday 18th July: Southend. 1pm start
  • Tuesday 15th August: Cudmore Grove, East Mersea. 10:30am start.
  • Thursday 14th September: Walton-on-the-Naze. 11:30am start.
  • Friday 13th October: Shoresearch and BBQ, Cudmore Grove, East Mersea. 11:30am start.

Essex Wildlife Trust training courses

Essex Wildlife Trust run a number of adult education courses that are open to both Trust members and non-members. These include courses on species identification, biological recording, wildlife management and arts and crafts. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment!

Places are limited so please book and pay the donation in advance.  Most courses will involve time outside, so please wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the weather and activityCourses may be cancelled at short notice. For day courses please bring a packed lunch. EWT offers all EWT regular volunteers up to a maximum of 2 complimentary places on these courses per year.  Further information about the course will be provided after booking.  An attendance certificate will be provided.

If we cancel an event your donation relating to the event will be refunded.

If you cancel an event booking more than 48 hours beforehand and ask for your donation to be refunded or transferred to an alternative event, we will be happy to do so.

If you cancel an event booking less than 48 hours beforehand please do not ask for your donation to be refunded, because by then we will be committed to run the event and unable to fill your place/s.
