The course will take a practical look at tree identification at a difficult time of the year. It will focus on native and non-native trees that are likely to be found in the woodlands and hedgerows of Essex and will explain how we identify trees using a combination of clues such as buds, bark, tree height and location. Simple identification keys will also be discussed.

The course is aimed at those with little or no experience of native tree identification but should also appeal to those with some knowledge of the subject. Led by Bill Godsafe.

Spaces are available on the Essex Wildlife Trust adult course on invasive non-native species, on 25th November - for more information or to book your place please email or call 01621 862960.

This course will enable you to competently identify the most abundant and problematic non-native invasive species in the UK in a thought provoking and interactive session. You will be able to identify them at their various different life stages and distinguish them from similar species. The morning will concentrate on their identification using interactive props to enhance the learning experience. It won’t however involve identification in the field. The afternoon session will delve into the detail of how these invasive species negatively impact on the environment and the economy. The best control methods for these species will also be covered in the latter part of the course.
